Defensive Driving for Today’s American Driver
March 12, 2009 | In: DUI DWI
Recently there has been an overwhelming trend in many states across the U.S., especially Texas and Florida, to develop private defensive driving schools available for all motorists. These state governments encourage the companies to provide state approved defensive driving courses for traffic citation dismissal or auto insurance discounts. This simply translates into earning a certificate of completion from a defensive driving or traffic school program to effectively keep a ticket from going on your driver record. The majority of these classes are available online for optimal convenience. Students can complete the course at their own pace twenty-four hours a day as their schedule permits.
States are pressured to increase driver education efforts in response to growing car accident fatality rates over the years. Defensive driving courses do well to educate drivers about the dangers on public roads and highways. Not only are there natural weather conditions that create adverse driving situations but poor or reckless behavior among motorists also threaten the overall safety of traffic environments. Insurance companies are also onboard with safe driver education because they are footing the bill by offering affordable coverage to costly drivers.
Even young drivers are aware of the ever present dangers on the road. These new drivers should be fresh out of driver’s ed with an abundance of knowledge about safe driving practices but some of these training programs are less than satisfactory. Supplemental driving schools like defensive driving courses are meant to further educate motorists about the ongoing development of their driving skills. Operating an automobile is a never-ending learning process so drivers today need to be always aware of the ever-changing traffic environment. When a driver is behind the wheel of an automobile they should always check their surroundings constantly and prepare themselves for any situation that may arise.
Today’s driver should take pride in their behind the wheel skills by brushing up on their driver safety knowledge with a defensive driving course.
